How Did We Get Started?
Dr. Milo Siewert
MD (Mex) DC (USA) (founder member, retired), came to Bournemouth from USA in 1980 when he founded the
Bournemouth Centre for Complementary Medicine. He subsequently founded The
National College of Holistic Medicine, initially to look
after the students who underwent his training course in Colonic
Hydrotherapy.
The NCHM has since grown to oversee a wide range of complementary
therapy training courses by various outside bodies.
In 1987 Dr. Milo Siewert popularised Colonic Hydrotherapy in Britain and
set up the Association and Register of Colonic Hydrotherapists, attracting
health seekers and high-profile devotees.
Dr Siewert is one of the UK’s leading lights in the field of Colonic Hydrotherapy
and is
also a Doctor of Chiropractic since qualifying in 1956. He
qualified as a medical doctor in 1976.
The College benefits through Dr. Siewert and his years of experience, so
we can be grateful to have this knowledge available to us.
A Message from Dr. Milo Siewert:
Hello everyone,
You will be reading this page on our website because you are either a
student interested in studying an accredited course in Holistic Therapies
or you are a course
provider looking for accreditation.
So What does this Mean? Well ! Accreditation basically indicates Official
Certification. With so many different courses available in the Holistic
field, it is important for students to ensure that the
courses they undertake will provide them with a recognised qualification,
which will entitle them to practise as a therapist.
The Accreditation which we provide will tell you that we at the National
College of Holistic Medicine (NCHM) as an independent body, have
thoroughly studied the coursework provided by the course provider, and we have approved their training methods and course content.
Our accreditation appears on all the Diplomas which are issued by our
registered training providers. This effectively adds the underpinning which
you need, in order to fully appreciate that the qualifications they provide are indeed worthy and valid. Once you have graduated
you will be able to display your Diplomas with great
pride.
Furthermore, students who wish to apply for membership of the National College
of Holistic Medicine are very welcome to join us. What we provide for
you is further confirmation of your position as a professional
therapist.
Our membership package provides you with a laminated
membership card with your
photo confirming your membership, which can be worn or displayed during
your therapy sessions. Also a Free Listing on our
International
Practitioner website. Another privilege of this membership is an
introduction to an insurance company to cover you for
Practitioner Public
Liability Insurance. NCHM annual membership is just £50 per annum. (We will require
a photocopy of your diploma/diplomas and also a photo of yourself for your
Identity Card).
Practitioner Public Liability Insurance, is needed to cover you when you
are working as a therapist, should the worst case scenario happen, and a
client makes a claim against you, for mal practise or any form of damage
that they may claim as a direct result of the treatment that you have
given. Fortunately, such cases are few and far between, however it is
important to have a comprehensive Insurance Policy in place, should such a
situation arise. Insurance policies will normally start at £1,000,000
cover plus, you decide with the insurance company how much cover you wish
for.
NCHM membership is also open to graduates from other schools and colleges.
If
you have previously studied elsewhere we will be delighted to welcome you as a
NCHM member.
If you need to speak to me personally I will be delighted to help you. My
telephone number is: +44 (0)1202 717727.
I do travel between my clinics in London, Poole and Southampton and
a few other locations too however.
Kind regards,
Dr. Milo Siewert MD (Mex) DC RT MACH ND MT

Michael
Carr-Jones (founder member, retired). Michael Carr-Jones, or MCJ as he is
affectionately known, was one of the founders of the NCHM and was a
leading figure in the organisation for many years. Now happily retired, Michael qualified as an
hypnotherapist
in 1987. He was in continuous practice until his retirement in August 2005.
During his long career he received Advanced Training from teachers
and mentors such as Bill Atkinson-Ball, Gill Boyne, Neil French and Dr. Bryan
Knight. MCJ wrote the prologue of Dr. Knight's book book
Love, Sex & Hypnosis - Secrets of Psychotherapy.
MCJ then went
on to learn and introduce a new way of helping clients this he called Psycho
visual Therapy.
After this came EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques. EFT is also known as Energy
Psychology or Energy Tapping, which Michael also taught for a
number of years.
Michael
has appeared in several TV programmes about, Hypnotherapy, Energy
Tapping and Psychovisual Therapy, and written many articles for
newspapers and journals.

All
the NCHM staff have their own experience to offer in the therapeutic field and
are glad to help students at all times.
